Cancellato l'Eurovision 2020, Diodato non parteciperà alla kermesse in Olanda

Per la prima volta in 64 anni di attività l’Eurovision Song Contest non si terrà. L’edizione 2020 è stata annullata a causa della pandemia da coronavirus. Ad annunciarlo in via ufficiale è stato l'Ebu, European Broadcasting Union, che dopo giorni di consultazioni ha deciso di cancellare definitivamente la kermesse musicale.

Il festival musicale, creato a Lugano da Marcel Bezencon nel 1956, è l’appuntamento annuale che da ormai 64 anni vede esibirsi su un palco ogni anno diverso i cantanti rappresentanti di ciascuna nazione dell’Unione Europea, più altre nazioni extra europee inseritesi con il passare delle edizioni. Per la prima volta in oltre mezzo secolo, però, l’Eurovision non si svolgerà a causa dell’emergenza sanitaria da coronavirus che sta coinvolgendo tutto il mondo. Troppo pericoloso.

La kermesse era in programma a Rotterdam, in Olanda, il prossimo maggio, dal 12 al 16, e per l'Italia era prevista la partecipazione di Diodato, vincitore dell'ultimo Festival di Sanremo. Con una nota ufficiale pubblicata sui canali social, gli organizzatori della manifestazione musicale hanno spiegato: "Nelle ultime settimane abbiamo esplorato molte opzioni alternative per consentire all'Eurovision Song Contest di proseguire. Tuttavia, l'incertezza creata dalla diffusione di COVID-19 in tutta Europa - e le restrizioni poste in essere dai governi delle emittenti televisive partecipanti e dalle autorità olandesi – hanno imposto all'Unione europea di radiodiffusione di prendere la difficile decisione che è impossibile continuare con l'evento dal vivo come previsto. Tutti noi abbiamo il cuore spezzato come lo è che l'Eurovision Song Contest non potrà essere organizzato a maggio e sappiamo che l'intera famiglia Eurovision, in tutto il mondo, continuerà a fornire amore e sostegno reciproco in questo momento difficile".

Gli organizzatori hanno fatto sapere che si sta valutando la possibilità di mantenere la location dell’edizione 2021 a Rotterdam, visto che l’Olanda è stata la vincitrice dell’edizione 2019 e che, per regolamento, deve ospitare la successiva edizione.

La stessa cosa non varrà però per i partecipanti: i cantanti e i gruppi musicali previsti quest'anno non potranno esserlo il prossimo anno e quindi anche l’Italia avrà, come suo rappresentante, il vincitore del Festival di Sanremo 2021 e non più Diodato, che non potrà esibirsi.

It is with deep regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam. . Over the past few weeks we have explored many alternative options to allow the Eurovision Song Contest to go ahead. . However the uncertainty created by the spread of COVID-19 throughout Europe – and the restrictions put in place by the governments of the participating broadcasters and the Dutch authorities - means the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has taken the difficult decision that it is impossible to continue with the live event as planned. . We are very proud that the Eurovision Song Contest has united audiences every year, without interruption, for the past 64 years and we, like the millions of fans around the world, are extremely saddened that it cannot take place in May. . The EBU, NPO, NOS, AVROTROS and the City of Rotterdam will continue a conversation regarding the hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021. . We would ask people to bear with us while we work through the ramifications of this unprecedented decision and patiently await any further news in the coming days and weeks. . We would like to pay tribute to all the host broadcaster team in the Netherlands and our 41 Members who have worked so hard on planning this year’s event. . We are all as heartbroken as they are that the Eurovision Song Contest will not be able to be staged in May and know that the whole Eurovision family, across the world, will continue to provide love and support for each other at this difficult time.
